After 40 years of Independence, PNG still has a very high rate of illiteracy in the country.

"Buk Bilong Pikinini - is an NGO established in 2007 with its fundamental goal to help increase literacy rates in PNG through the fostering of a culture of literacy and reading from early childhood.

BbP works to promoting the value of reading to children from an early age and providing the tangible means to do so, in an inspirational and caring environment.

The organisation works closely with local communities in which the libraries are located.

It is this determination to improve literacy rates amongst children that has lured BSP into partnering with BbP to work together in improving literacy rates nationwide.

With this partnership, BSP will fund a total of seven (7) libraries around the country. First Library funded by BSP was launched in Lae in February 2013. This library is situated within the premises of the University of Technology and service over 100 children within this community.

Second Library will open on 14th April 2014 in Goroka. Other locations of the BSP sponsored libraries include: Madang, NCD, Wewak, Lorengau and Kokopo.

BSP is privileged to partner with BbP to promote education among children, and ultimately play a part in improving access to education in PNG, because like BbP, BSP focus is on the children and youth of our country
