Joseph Keaeke- 25 years of service with BSP

Monday, May 21, 2018

My father was a banker. I admired his intelligence, talent, energy and the commitment he had for his job. I thought to myself that one day I would do what my father did.

I joined the bank in 1992 fresh from high school 25 years later,   I am holding up an award that tells me that I have been with the bank for over twenty years, with lots of stories to tell.

"To be a good banker, you have to put a smile on the face of your customers. That's the encouragement my father gave. I recall in 2013, when I was asked to give a short speech at the opening of a Cash Agent in Bumayong, Lae, Morobe Province. One thing I took away that day was seeing the happiness and smiles on the faces of the whole community there, for the banking service. I will never forget that day has it reminds me of my father's words," he said.

This award reminds me of so many things growing up with the bank, the changes, the challenges, the uncertainty and the rewards. It also reminds me of the commitment and the persistence, the loyalty and pride I have for this organisation.

I thank our heavenly Father for His faithfulness over my life and to my old man who was a former Banker with PNGBC for encouraging me to join this noble profession and press on despite the odds.

It has also been a great honour to be a part of and witness the Bank's growth from what it was during my father's days with PNGBC to what it is now.

BSP is a very good employer and I will not hesitate to market BSP to anyone who wants a career in banking.

The bank recognises the efforts of the staff and rewards them accordingly which is a big boost on staff morale. This inspires many staff to give their 110% best in their performance. It's an honour being part of a great organisation.

Joseph started as the Bills & Overseas officer, Dishonour clerk, Input operator at Waigani Banking centre, and then moved to Wewak Branch as a Teller.

He has served in Maprik, Aitape Lae and Port Moresby, moving from being a Corporate Teller to Loans Officer then to ATMs, Electronic Banking and now serves as a Customer Service Officer in Lae Top Town.
