Friday, August 20, 2021

BSP Financial Group Limited (BSP) recognises and supports sports development in the country, including inclusive sports and is pleased to be supporting the PNG Paralympic Athletes in their journey to the 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games is scheduled from 24th August to 5th September, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. PNG will be represented by a delegation of four (4) which includes Para Athletes Nelly Leva and Morea Maracos (both Javelin throwers), their Coach, Jackie Travertz and Chef de Mission Susanne Sere.

BSP presented the Para Athletes a cash sponsorship of K7,070 including merchandise on Friday 20th August, 2021. The sponsorship support covers the team’s meals, training gears, uniforms and quarantine allowances during the event and trip.

BSP Corporate Sponsorship Manager Amelia Minnopu said BSP is pleased to be supporting the PNG Paralympic Committee since 2009.

“We are proud of our continued association with the PNG Paralympic Committee. Our continued support in sports gives everyone including athletes with disabilities an equal opportunity to achieve their sporting aspirations. BSP’s support over the years has enabled Para Athletes to take part in the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby and the China Open Athletics Championships in 2016 in Beijing, China,” Ms Minnopu added.

PNG Paralympic Committee Chef de Mission Susan Sere thanked BSP for supporting the Para Athlete’s journey through the sponsorship in cash and in kind.

“On behalf of the PNG Paralympic Committee President and from the Tokyo bound team, I'd like to acknowledge and thank BSP for coming on board to support the team. BSP has been a major supporter of Paralympics in the past and so we are thankful for their continuous support. We travel on Sunday (21st August) and our 5-days training starts from Monday. Morea competes on the 1st of September and Nelly on the 3rd of September,” Ms Sere said.

Coach, Jackie Travertz  said both Morea and Nelly have been part of PNG Para Athletes in 2017 and have competed in various competitions but this will be first ever experience for them at Paralympics. It is something that every athletes dream of and now it is their time. Both are excited and are looking forward to the experience in Japan.

“We will do our best and make our country happy,” said Para Athlete Nelly Leva.

“We wish them the best in their preparations and respective events, said Ms Minnopu.
