Tuesday, December 22, 2020

Students of De La Salle Secondary School outside Port Moresby will commence the 2021 academic year with a fully kitted eLibrary - the second of such project by Bank South Pacific under its 'Digital Inclusiveness' themed Community Projects in 2020.

BSP in partnership with Telikom Foundation and the Lasallian Alumni Association PNG signed an agreement for the eLibrary project rollout at the De La Salle Secondary School on Friday 18th December, 2020.

This project will see students have access to an e-Library network - Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning (or RACHEL) plus Lesson Planner and Content Storage for teachers.

Students will be able to access over 1 million research material and educational sites both on and offline. Students who have smart phones and are within the radius of the Wi-Fi network can also access the e-library.

BSP Head of Marketing & Public Relations, Gorethy Semi said BSP is happy to partner in this project by providing the network server and four (4) additional desktops computers to the school Library including related IT accessories to the value of K30,000.00.

"We are handing over another worthy community project under the theme - Digital Inclusiveness in BSP's Education aspect of Community Projects. Apart from this support and a few others, we are happy that we will still be able to deliver 46 Community Projects throughout PNG valued at K1.5m in total in 2020," Semi added.

Telikom PNG Foundation Inc provided the labour to set up the eLibrary and one-year worth of Wi-Fi internet connectivity for the school.

De La Salle Secondary School Principal Br Anthony Samy Pancras acknowledged the former students and members of the Lasallian Alumni Association PNG for giving back to the school.

"We are fortunate to receive this e-Library resource. It is not easy to get internet facility for schools and we are privileged, thanks to the partnership between Telikom Foundation Inc. and Bank South Pacific. This is the biggest improvement to the school. Academically we performed well, getting 7th place in the country, both in our Grade 10 and Grade 12 exam results," Br Anthony added.

Last month, a similar eLibrary concept was launched and handed over to the Kilakila Secondary School by BSP in partnership with Telikom Foundation Inc.
