BSP’s 9 Mile Digital Branch has hit the ground running, recording strong customer uptake and transaction volumes in its first month of operation – confirming the community’s demand for modern, accessible banking services.
In just six weeks, the branch—together with its onsite ATMs—has processed around 40,000 transactions, demonstrating high usage from customers living and working in the fast-growing 9 Mile corridor.
Speaking at the branch Grand Opening today, Friday 23rd January, 2026, BSP Group CEO Mark Robinson described the 9 Mile branch operation as a key milestone in BSP’s broader digital transformation program, designed to make banking more accessible while supporting economic growth in one of Port Moresby’s fastest-growing corridors. The branch services customers in Moresby North East, parts of Central Province along Sogeri Road, the Hiritano Highway, and parts of Gulf Province.

“BSP will continue opening and upgrading branches, including new locations in Minj, and Tari, while also rolling out enhanced digital services, more personalised offerings such as BSP First, and improved support for business customers through the BSP Business Bank. These investments, together with our dedicated BSP team, reflect our long-term commitment to supporting prosperity for our customers and communities,” Mr Robinson said.
The 9 Mile Digital Branch operates without cash over the counter. It offers smart self-service solutions that improve efficiency while maintaining full everyday banking services. Customers can deposit and withdraw cash through Deposit ATMs and access a range of digital banking options without unnecessary travel.
Financial inclusion remains a key focus. BSP has signed up two new Cash Agents within the community, extending access to transfers, deposits, withdrawals, and Wantok Wallet onboarding and upgrade services, beyond the branch itself and closer to where people live.

“The branch has also on boarded close to 1,000 customers onto Internet and Mobile Banking, while 50 new Wantok Wallet accounts have been registered, enabling families and individuals to transfer funds safely and conveniently.
“Supporting local commerce is also a priority. This week, BSP welcomed Eliseo as an exclusive BSP EFTPOS merchant. The partnership provides secure, reliable payment solutions that strengthen business confidence and support growth for local traders.
