BSP delivers 45 high-impact community projects investing K1.68 million

BSP Financial Group Limited (BSP) successfully delivered 45 high-impact community projects across Papua New Guinea under its 2025 Community Project Initiative, investing over K1.68 million in Education, Health and Community, targeting Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), medical support, digital inclusion, infrastructure upgrades, and renewable energy.

This investment reaffirms BSP’s commitment to sustainable development and meaningful community engagement.

BSP Community projects have improved access to clean water and sanitation, strengthened education infrastructure and digital access, supported health facilities and medical services, invested in renewable energy solutions, and enhanced community wellbeing and inclusion.

In 2025, BSP’s staff-led community projects, delivered through branches across Papua New Guinea, contributed over K1.68 million back into communities. Of this, 60% was invested in education, 37% in health, and 3% in broader community initiatives.

Among the completed initiatives, Goroka Branch delivered a water supply project at Nagamizu Village, Eastern Highlands Province, providing access to over 300 people and restoring infrastructure that had deteriorated over a decade, demonstrating strong execution and responsiveness to community needs.

Kimbe Branch delivered a solar-powered pump and 2 new water tanks for Talasea High School, enabling access to clean running water and supporting sustainability.

Boroko Lending Centre donated computers as part of the Digital Inclusion Theme to Wardstrip Primary School.

Talasea High School Principal, Mr Chris Gambu, noted that the project has significantly improved school operations, highlighting that the school had built ablution facilities that remained unusable due to lack of running water until BSP Kimbe delivered the project—restoring access to clean water for over 400 students.

BSP branches in Tari, Lihir and Wewak supported digital inclusion by donating computers to schools, while the Vanimo Branch went further by establishing an e-library at Holy Trinity Humanities Academy.

In the health sector, Popondetta General Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Ward and the Simbu Provincial Health Authority received new ultrasound machines and essential medical supplies, strengthening healthcare delivery in the province.

In Port Moresby, the People & Culture team upgraded the dental sterilisation room, while BSP First Gordon’s Branch renovated the Ward 9 Cancer Wing ablution block for Port Moresby General Hospital (PomGen).

Patients rely on quality care as a key part of their recovery, and the renovation of the ablution block provided a meaningful opportunity for our staff to give back to the community. At Ward 9 – Cancer Wing, the ward received a full renovation, restoring two of the three shower rooms and toilets, refurbishing cubicles, and replacing tiles and shower curtains,” said Ian Miria, BSP First Branch Manager

From everyday conversations with staff in the communities, many initiatives have evolved into impactful projects—reflecting both responsiveness to real needs and the personal commitment of BSP employees to give back.

One such conversation led to the full renovation of the 9 Mile Urban Clinic, combining the resources from two business units, BSP Treasury & Markets and Finance & Strategy. The project significantly improved the clinic’s working environment, delivering new patient benches, storage cabinets, and a complete refresh of the facility, creating a more functional and welcoming space for both staff and patients.

While conversations moved projects, other projects were more personal, like for BSP staff, Leroy Edmund, Community Project Coordinator for Retail Banking team, who embraced the opportunity to give back to his former school, Tokarara Secondary School. BSP’s Retail Banking team installed new drinking fountains that will benefit over 2,000 students—providing access to clean, cool, and safe drinking water, while promoting hygiene, wellbeing, and a healthier learning environment.

As a former student, I stood in those exact same lines at those exact same water taps. I know firsthand what it’s like to drink warm tap water.  This project will leave a lasting change, improving students’ overall wellbeing. I am pleased to be able to give back to the school and the students through BSP Community Project Initiative,” said Leroy.

These projects demonstrate BSP’s commitment to meaningful, community-driven initiatives. Through our branch network, we are able to identify real needs on the ground and deliver targeted solutions that create long-term impact in education, health, and community wellbeing.” Hari Rabura, Group General Manager – Corporate Affairs & Community
