More than 200 students from Kapari Primary School and residents of Kapari Village, Abau, in the Central Province now benefit from improved access to clean toilet facilities and handwashing amenities, helping reduce open defecation and the spread of disease.
The construction of four pit toilet blocks and a wash station was installed to address the urgent need for safe and accessible sanitation facilities in the rural community. This venture was led by BSP’s Boroko Banking center as part of their community project initiative.
The project also empowered local volunteers and strengthened community ownership through active participation in construction and maintenance.
The community project spanned a six-week period, commencing on 2nd September 2025 and reaching completion on 18th October. An official handover ceremony was held on 25th October to mark its successful delivery.
During the handover, Kapari Primary School Principal, Mr Kepi Elkat, expressed heartfelt appreciation.
“This project has brought real change to our village. For the first time, families and students can use proper toilet facilities. We thank BSP for partnering with Kapari Development Association to make this happen and for trusting the community to take ownership.”
BSP commends the strong collaboration with Kapari Development Association and the local community, whose commitment ensured the project was completed within six weeks. The use of quality materials and high participation from students, parents, and residents contributed to its success.
“It’s been a privilege to work alongside KDA to provide safe and accessible sanitation, helping protect the health of school children and the wider community,” said Branch Manager Madeleine Leka said. “We hope these new facilities make a real difference for the community, and that everyone takes pride in looking after them for lasting use,” she added.
BSP remains committed to supporting rural infrastructure development and enhancing community wellbeing across Papua New Guinea.
