About the Role

Are you a detail-oriented finance professional with a strong understanding of tax compliance and reporting? We are looking for a skilled and motivated Taxation Accountant to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate tax reporting and compliance with PNG’s Income Tax Act while supporting effective financial operations across the BSP Group.

Key Deliverables

  •  Support the Taxation Manager in all daily tax operations to ensure full compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Prepare and submit all monthly, quarterly, and annual IRC tax returns, ensuring timely lodgement to avoid penalties.
  • Reconcile tax-related accounts (assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses) and perform year-end tax return reconciliations.
  • Liaise with tax agents, the IRC, and other internal SBUs to clarify tax matters and maintain smooth workflows.
  • Maintain and review Finance Lease Asset Registers (PNG, Fiji, Solomon Islands) with monthly reconciliations and analysis.
  • Assist staff with housing variation forms, personal tax returns, and TIN applications.
  • Support the Accounts Payable team by reviewing overseas supplier contracts and advising on applicable withholding taxes.
  • Prepare and finalize group GST returns including GST reverse charges and tax clearances in coordination with relevant business units.
  • Provide documentation and support for quarterly tax compliance reviews and respond to queries from auditors or tax agents.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Business Studies.
  • CPA Membership (Certified Practising Accountant) is essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in taxation and management reporting.  Demonstrated experience working with tax authorities and external agents.
  • Strong knowledge of PNG Income Tax Act and general tax legislation.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Sound analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Working knowledge of risk management, compliance, and financial reporting.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
