Retail Credit Assurance Manager

Position Details

About the Role

This position is located in Port Moresby and reports to the Policy, Governance, and Assurance. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the independent assurance of the retail credit lifecycle, with a specific emphasis on conduct risk, fair customer outcomes, and responsible lending practices. The role ensures that processes are established to detect any misalignments with policies or regulations, as well as to identify systemic issues that require remediation. Additionally, the position collaborates closely with the business to implement effective, system-based controls that enhance the management of retail credit risks and improve overall risk maturity.

Key Deliverables

  •  Lead and implement a forward-thinking retail credit assurance plan encompassing origination, account management, collections, and hardship considerations.
  • Provide positive assurance regarding credit and conduct risk controls, emphasizing the effectiveness of these controls and the outcomes for customers.
  • Proactively identify and escalate issues through rigorous testing, thematic reviews, and analysis of customer outcomes.
  • Engage actively in supporting the business with remediation activities, ensuring the establishment of sustainable, system-embedded control solutions.
  • Deliver clear and actionable insights to foster continuous improvement and enhance the control environment within the first line of defense.
  • Develop and execute strategies for managing and mitigating credit risks, which includes assessing repayment capacity, debt levels, and the likelihood of default.
  • Monitor conduct trends and risk indicators, recommending enhancements to frameworks or processes as necessary.
  • Assist the business in understanding and integrating regulatory and policy expectations.
  • Contribute to the strengthening of risk culture through constructive challenge, transparency, and the cultivation of trusted relationships across teams.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:

  •  A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Possession of a professional certification, such as Certified Risk Manager or Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional, is advantageous.
  • Highly numerate and analytical, with a robust understanding of the retail credit lifecycle and conduct risk frameworks.
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct assurance reviews and influence change at senior management levels.
  • Practical experience in supporting remediation and control enhancement initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong presentation capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • In-depth understanding of lending, credit risk, financial concepts, and credit life cycles.
  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical detail and pragmatic solutions.
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in credit risk, conduct risk, compliance assurance, or internal audit.
