Position Details

About the Role

The positions are based in Waigani Head Office here in the National Capital District. Two successful incumbents will report to Manager Communications Projects where as one will report to the Manager Communications Support. The successful candidates will be responsible for designing, implementing and support all aspects of the successful delivery of IT Communications projects.

Key Deliverables

  • Ensure network projects assigned are delivered within the allocated timeframe with all the projects goals and target seen.
  • Maintain and keep up to date the Project Methodology and Documentation during the lifecycle of the assigned project as well as the BSP Network documentation including diagrams, configuration files and other technical documentation.
  • Assist in the provision of knowledge transfer and training between the IT Communication Support and the IT Communication Projects teams at the end of all assigned projects.
  • Ensure data cabling and network installation for the BSP Retail and Corporate Network Infrastructure are completed as per design specifications.
  • Configuring network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls and other networking equipment.
  • Provide troubleshooting skills on routing, switching and firewalls technologies for implementation of new or replaced network and/or communications infrastructure.
  • Always adhere to the organization and IT policies, standards and procedures to minimize impact, risks and costs to the business and effectively adhere to the fixed assets acquisition, transfer and inventory as per Finance Asset Management policy and provide accurate reporting as and requested by Finance or IT.
  • Provide communications to customers on resolution issues/problems and recommendations, improvements to ensure the services are met and service levels can be improved.
  • Consistently deliver professional outcome when undertaking a project related task to meet project objectives and ensure that objectives met are of quality and will reduce revisit of tasks.
  • Establish the networking environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation and defining, documenting and enforcing system standards.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in IT/Computer Science at a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent in work experience.
  • Proficient in data network cabling.
  • Proficient in IP addressing and Sub-netting.
  • Experienced in Routing Technologies and in Switching technologies.
  • Experienced in LAN, MAN and WAN Topologies.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery software and procedures of Network equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practice on management, access control and network infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting Cisco networking platform.
  • Understanding of F5 load balancing.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience as a Support engineer in a medium to large IT Network operations.
