Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Together with other legal officers in the Legal unit, to provide the legal advice and representation as required by the Bank in undertaking its operations;
- Provide commercially sensible and accurate legal services on a timely basis;
- Provide supervision, training and guidance to all other legal officers and support staff within the Legal unit;
- To review and draft various commercial agreements, contracts and facility agreements.
- To undertake various tasks incidental to compliance with external regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Undertake all tasks assigned in a professional manner, with honesty and integrity ensuring at all times that the interests of BSP are adequately protected;
- Ensure management of all files and records of the Legal Officer are properly maintained in a manner expected of a good legal practitioner, including management of the file on Service Desk Plus;
- Maintain professional standards including keeping up to date with the law and developments;
- Manage business partnerships and interconnected business activities;
- Provide accurate and insightful reporting in a timely manner;
- Maintain a practising certificate;
- To ensure all information is kept confidential;
- To supervise, train and develop junior legal officers.
- Support paralegal and admin officer duties as and when required.
- Perform all tasks incidental to supporting the Legal Services BU
You MUST meet the following requirements:
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Law
- Be Admitted to practice in the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea.
- Have 5-7 years’ post admission experience (preferably working with or for a financial institution)
- Be Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Have strong communication (written/verbal) skills
- Have good presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Have strong discipline around matter management and file management.
- Have sound knowledge and understanding of the law and its application.
- Be able to quickly determine and analyse factual issues and apply the law.
- Be Proficient in legal drafting
- Be able to articulate and clearly express views
