About the role:
This role leads the audit coverage across the Group’s Pacific operations, providing independent assurance while balancing strong Group governance with the realities of diverse, emerging markets.
This role plays a critical part in strengthening control maturity, managing regional risk exposure, and supporting sustainable growth across Pacific jurisdictions.
Key Deliverables:
- Develop and deliver a risk-based annual audit plan for Pacific Markets aligned to Group strategy, setting the scope and priorities and ensuring alignment to Enterprise Wide & Risk Registers and regulatory expectations.
- Define thematic reviews for emerging risks.
- Lead the Pacific Markets audit portfolio within Group Internal Audit, setting the scope, and priorities and ensuring alignment of audit plans to Enterprise-Wide Risk Registers, regulatory requirements, and emerging risks.
- Oversee planning, execution, and high-quality reporting of audits, clear root-cause analysis and practical recommendations across Pacific Markets products, distribution, operations and digital platforms.
- Ensure audit work adheres to high standards and the IIA’s International Professional Practices Framework.
- Monitor and follow up on timely implementation and closure of management remediation actions, escalating significant issues and delays as needed.
- Provide proactive insights to GCA on risk trends and emerging risks including concentration risk, corresponding bank risk, operational resilience and talent dependency
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments, and market practices to ensure proactive coverage.
- Challenge management assessments to ensure proper risk identification
- Serve as the trusted advisor and build strong relationships with Country Heads while upholding independence.
- Present audit insights to GCA and other executives, Audit Committees and regulators as required.
- Lead a high performing audit team by ensuring team members are actively participating in capacity building and Quality Assurance & Improvement Programs (QAIPs).
- Oversee the performance of own team, clear objectives are set and feedback is provided.
- Be proactive in innovating and improving audit efficiency by driving the team to fully utilize the automated audit process via Resolver, continuous monitoring of staff engagement, and effective use of AI-enabled audit techniques.
Essential Qualifications, Professional Skills & Experience:
- University Degree in Accounting (or similar field e.g. Finance or Banking) – preferred.
- Professional Membership:
- Member of the IIA with CIA and/or CPA, CA, CISA qualification or equivalent.
- Deep understanding of Pacific Markets businesses, products and processes.
- Knowledge of Pacific Markets frameworks & operations
- Strong audit methodology, root-cause analysis, and risk assessment capabilities.
- Strong report writing and executive communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and manage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- In-depth knowledge of banking laws, regulations, and corporate governance principles.
- 10–15+ years relevant experience in Internal Audit, Risk Management, or Financial Services.
- Sound knowledge of audit standards & internal control regulations.
- Experience leading audit teams across multiple geographies.
- Deep exposure to Pacific Markets credit processes, branch operations, digital banking, and customer servicing.
- Experience interacting with senior executives, Board and regulators.
