About the Role
The position is based in Port Moresby and reports to the Head of Financial Reporting. The successful incumbent will Lead the Financial Accounting function and ensure high-quality and timely delivery of the Bank and Group’s statutory reporting, general ledger controls, provisioning under IFRS 9, external audit coordination, and compliance with financial reporting standards and prudential requirements. Provide financial oversight for Pacific Markets and Subsidiaries.
Key Deliverables
- Manage the preparation and finalisation of half-year and annual financial statements for BSP Bank and Group in accordance with IFRS and the Companies Act.
- Lead the audit process including planning, responses, coordination, and closure with external auditors.
- Oversee preparation and review of month-end journals: general provision, IFRS 16 leases, write-offs, and recoveries.
- Ensure accuracy of financial results submitted by Pacific Markets and Subsidiaries, including monthly EXCO commentary.
- Consolidate forecasts, budgets, and reforecasts for Pacific entities, and support board paper preparation.
- Ensure Bank and Group compliance with IFRS (with strong focus on IFRS 9), BPNG Prudential Standards, and BSP internal accounting policies.
- Coordinate preparation of Group-level FS notes related to provisions and off-balance sheet exposures.
- Support PiT PD recalibration process for provisioning.
- Manage and mentor the Financial Accounting team, building capability and succession.
- Drive continuous improvement and process efficiency across the reporting cycle.
- Assist with other ad hoc queries as and when required. Internal audit, special projects, etc.
- Coordinate and review the calculation of staff rewards and benefits, including bonuses, leave accruals, and allowances. Ensure accurate recording, general ledger posting, and financial reporting disclosures in line with IFRS and BSP accounting policies.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Business (Essential)
- Certified Practicing Accountant PNG (CPA PNG) or equivalent (Essential)
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in financial reporting or audit
- At least 3 years in a supervisory/managerial role
- In-depth working knowledge of IFRS 9 and Financial Statements (Essential)
- Advanced knowledge of IFRS 9 and other IFRS standards
- Strong knowledge of Financial Statement preparation and interpretation (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Disclosures)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Senior-level financial analysis and general ledger control
- Strong team leadership and staff development skills
