Credit Underwriting Officer

Position Details

About the Role:

This role is based in Gordons Commercial Center and will report the Credit Underwriting Head. The successful incumbent will conduct full analysis on credit cases submitted by Business Banking customers applying for one of Business Banking lending solutions (Policy/product programs) and prepare their credit packages, follow up on their performance to ensure complying with the relevant credit policy, Bank Policies within the defined turnaround time (TAT).

Key Deliverables:

  • Conducts checks/investigation on debtors & suppliers (counterparties) against exit and undesirable lists.
  • Financial Statement Accuracy checks and receipt of sales info memorandum from Sales Manager (Borrowing) for requests within delegated Tier of customers.
  • Conduct financial statement spreading and analysis on customer’s financials referred by the Sales Managers to offer them the suitable lending package.
  • Passes customers through CSC (Customer selection criteria) to reach customer’s risk grade as per credit program
  • Prepare the Customer’s Customer Acceptance Criteria” (Terms of Lending) as per the customer risk grade as per Credit Program
  • Work closely with Early Warning as required
  • Assist with any other projects as required.
  • Ensure positive working relationship, effective communication and liaison with all key stakeholders
  • Track the expiry and renewals of granted facilities to finalize the required approvals before the target date.
  • Provide case feedback on submitted cases form the Sales Manager (Borrowing) within the defined TAT to maintain customer satisfaction and set service levels.
  • Follows all relevant department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
  • Receives request from Credit Sales team and checks to ensure all required documents are in place/in order against checklists available.
  • Registers requests received from Credit Sales team on a tracking register and allocates to an underwriter to review
  • Liaise with Credit Administration Unit to prepare loan documentation (letter of offer, security documents etc).
  • Receive loan documentation from Credit Administration Unit and check to ensure approved facilities including all conditions are correctly captured before sending off to the Credit Sales Unit for issuance to customer.
  • Conduct internal training sessions for BB Staff to improve technical skills and adherence to BB Credit Policy, process and procedure.
  • Completes all mandatory compliance and other allocated trainings within due dates
  • Follows the day-to-day operations related to own jobs in the Business Banking Credit department to ensure continuity of work
  • Complies with all relevant BPNG regulations, banking laws, AML regulations and internal BSP policies and code of conduct in order to maintain BSP’s sound legal position and mitigate any potential risks

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills & Experience:

  • Tertiary preferably in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Business Management or Business Studies, Economics.
  • Proficient in Oral & Written English.
  • Proficient in General/Desktop Microsoft Applications.
  • Intermediate Technical Skills in Credit Processes.
  • Intermediate Technical Skills in Policies& Procedures.
  • Intermediate Technical Skills in Compliance/Legislation.
  • Intermediate Technical Skills in Risk Management.
  • Intermediate Numeracy/Financial Technical Skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Qualitative and Quantitative analysis
  • Ability to meet and discuss with customers without alienating them.
  • Must have a mind-set which identifies key risks and mitigates and is not textbook/documentation focused.
  • Minimum 2 – 7 years lending experience in lending to SME/Midcap segment.
  • Credit Certified.
