Position Details

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Report findings and issues and to make prescriptive recommendations for correcting unsatisfactory conditions, improving operations, strengthening internal controls and reducing credit and operational risk.
  • Supervise a small team of credit inspection officers tasked with completing assigned tasks.
  • Achieve the CI plan for the year/half year
  • Scope and undertake credit inspection reviews as per the CI plan
  • Complete file assessments timely and accurately
  • Material and systemic issues are to be documented in a clear and concise manner for representing to the business and support areas.
  • CI portfolio reports are to be completed promptly following the completion of fieldwork with minimal errors and minimal rework.
  • CI methodology is to be strictly adhered to. Any areas of process improvement within CI are to be discussed and developed with the manager credit inspection and head of credit inspection.
  • The CI plan is to be maintained up to date as to progress with completion of reviews.
  • Outstanding issues and compliance certificates are to be recorded and followed up.
  • Identify areas of improvement with business related policies and process and progress implementation.
  • Conduct all activities in a professional manner, in line with BSPO bank core values and in line with CI methodology.
  • Identify and provide value-adding advice to the business.
  • Coach business staff on the risk areas identified during fieldwork on completion of the fieldwork.
  • Work cohesively as a team to ensure consistent findings and all targets are achieved.
  • Assist to maintain all costs within budget.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
  • University Degree or other tertiary institution, preferably Accounting, Economics, Legal or Finance
  • Minimum 7 years of banking experience within the area corporate or commercial banking.
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • A thorough understanding of risk, both operational and credit.
  • Strong relationship and negotiations skills while operating in a genuinely collaborating manner, adapting own style and approach maximise impact.
  • Ability to make sound and timely decisions analysing the root cause of a problem to identify the best possible solutions.
  • Ability to remain objective throughout the Credit Inspection process and has the strength of character to complete reviews in what may be challenging situations.
  • Detailed understanding of Credit and Risk within wholesale banking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer Literate.
