Position Details

Key Deliverables:
  • Together with other legal officers in the Legal unit, to provide the legal advice and representation as required by the Bank in undertaking its operations;
  • Provide commercially sensible and accurate legal services on a timely basis;
  • Undertake all tasks assigned in a professional manner, with honesty and integrity ensuring at all times that the interests of BSP are adequately protected;
  • Ensure management of all files and records of the Legal Officer are properly maintained in a manner expected of a good legal practitioner, including management of the file on Legal Services Data Base and Service Desk Plus;
  • Maintain professional standards including keeping up to date with the law and developments;
  • Manage business partnerships and interconnected business activities;
  • Provide required reports which are accurate;
  • Maintain a practicing certificate;
  • To ensure all information is kept confidential;
  • To assist in the delegation, supervision, training and development of other legal officers including sharing of knowledge and precedents;
  • To review and draft various commercial agreements;
  • To undertake various tasks incidental to compliance with external regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures and;
  • Support paralegal duties as and when required.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
  • Degree or other Tertiary Degree in Law
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner to the National and Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea.
  • Must have at least 3 – 5 years of commercial litigation or in house experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the law and its application.
  • Ability to determine and analyse factual issues and apply the law.
  • Ability to draft documents.
  • Ability to articulate and express views
  • Computer Literate
