Who is BSP Rural?
BSP Rural is a wholly owned subsidiary of BSP and was established to provide simple banking services to rural Papua New Guineans. BSP Rural operates as an agent of BSP meaning that the deposits accepted by BSP Rural are the deposits of BSP.
What product is available from BSP Rural?
The primary product available through BSP Rural is the Rural Kundu Account. This is a transaction account which is accessed by a Rural Kundu Card or via SMS banking. The Rural Kundu Cards can be used “across-the-counter” at BSP Rural branches or in any of BSP’s ATM’s of EFTPOS terminals across Papua New Guinea.
The standard features of the Rural Kundu Account are:
- Day-to-day transaction account
- Access via a Rural Kundu Card or SMS Banking
- No minimum account balance requirement
- No monthly service charge
- Funds are at call
- Pay-as-you-go transaction fees
Are there charges for this product?
A new account fee of K7.50 is charged when opening a Rural Kundu Account and this is deducted automatically from the account when it is opened. A transaction fee of K1 is charged for all deposit or withdrawal transaction and this is automatically deducted from the account on the day of the transaction.
Who can use the Rural Kundu Account?
The Rural Kundu Account is designed for anyone living in rural villages or district centres including:
- Self employed people and farmers
- Public servants located in district centres or rural villages
- Private sector employees located in district centres or rural villages.
Where do I go to access BSP Rural?
BSP Rural branches are located in District Treasury Offices and will soon be operating throughout Papua New Guinea.
