PROJECT TITLE: INSTALLATION OF 3X WATER TANKS TO TIGIBY PRIMARY, HABARE SDA PRIMARY & HELA TECHNICAL

Date: 27th April 2016

Students in three schools in Hela Province can focus on learning because they do not have to walk to the nearest creek for water thanks to Bank South Pacific (BSP).

Tigibi (Ambua) Primary, Habare SDA Primary and Hela Technical High School received a brand new 9000ltr water tank each as part of the BSP's community project for 2016.

This now means the students focus more on studies instead of fetching water from the creek for use and consumption. Clean water also means improved hygiene and sanitation for the school students and teachers.

The school's principals, Sueann Waiange, Ben Norma and Jim Kulyali expressed gratitude and praised BSP for providing the tanks.

BSP's Tari branch staff assisted with the project by cleaning and preparing the sites for the tanks to be set up, with the support of a local contractor. Staff involvement was voluntary and the project was completed within 3 months.

Branch Manager Gabriel Ak, handed over the tanks to the schools today - a timely gift as classes also resumed today after the first term break.

Mr Ak said BSP is committed to helping the communities in which it operates. "The problem of dirty water and inadequate sanitation causes all kinds of disease that has an impact on children and by providing these tanks the children now have clean and safe water, which means they spend more time in the classroom getting an education," Mr Ak said.
